Free your inner child: live and have fun
Living in a society that focuses on obtaining comfort and security, we are expected to be on the go all the time. We are caught up in the doing. From a very young age, we are taught to discover our “passion” so that we can make a living doing what we love. We are conditioned to think that if the work we do is our “passion”, we will be able to endure the expected hardships and work very hard for it everyday until we die. In return, we will live a comfortable life. Passion becomes the armor that protects us from life. It masks the fear that has been instilled in our unconscious mind since we were children. The fear of the unknown. Our defense mechanism to the fear of the unknown is to establish control in our lives. We try to control our lives by choosing which schools to attend, what internships to get, what careers to have, the roadmaps of our children’s lives, etc. To us, this is the way of life. Everything we do is primarily based on our survival instinct.
The kind of purpose we are taught to search for focuses solely on the survival level. It has to be something that we can do for a living and it’s better to be something that can make us a lot of money. When we run into a wall searching for our purpose or even when we are fulfilling the purpose we have chosen for survival, we begin to think about the purpose of life on the spiritual level. As we embark on the journey of soul searching, we try everything that can provide us a sense of peace and calmness. Meditation, Reiki, Yoga, readings, hypnotherapy, and the list goes on. It doesn’t matter what we try, the relief from suffering is always short-lived. The void that is filled with suffering is still there. The longing for something we don’t have never goes away. We keep searching and hoping to find a purpose that is “meaningful” to fulfill so that we can start living our lives.
The meaning of life
We all have purposes. As eternal beings living as human beings on Earth, the purpose of our existence is to experience and to live. Very much like humans go through different phases of life to develop personalities, build skills, gain knowledge, etc. Souls go through incarnations to explore, learn and develop their own unique traits. When we understand that our life is essentially a gigantic campus created to help our souls learn, we can face these challenges consciously. We will understand the meaning of every hardship and learn from it.
Sometimes we become obsessed with the spiritual world because we see it as an escape from our mundane human life on Earth. It’s comforting to know or even have a glimpse of a dimension that is full of unconditional love and total acceptance. It is a heaven and a sanctuary for the tired souls that are incarnating on Earth. This obsession creates friction between our duties on Earth and our longing for returning home to the spirit world. The resistance to human life strengthens, we wish to run away from the rat race and become hermits. We might start working towards this goal - early retirement, becoming a healer, living off-grid, or whatever lifestyle that we think will give us the appropriate level of escape. We are waiting for this ideal life to happen and then we can fulfill our purposes and be happy. Waiting for something significant to happen inhibits us from seeing the meaning of life in the everyday life. We are conditioned to think that simple things aren’t worth anything and that life requires pain and suffering to be meaningful.
The meaning of life is different for every soul. The meaning of life exists in every second and in every experience we come across. The meaning of life can be the beautiful sunset that captures your eyes; the delightful scent of a flower; the sound of the rain; the smile on a stranger’s face; a difficult breakup; losing someone important. The meaning of life does not need words or context. It is the present moment and whatever it makes you feel when you’re truly present. If we remember the pure joy of our souls when we first entered this incarnation, we can see the beauty and appreciate the experience of life on Earth again. It could be so simple for babies - a funny face our parent makes, a new sound, the movement of an object, the sunshine. Slowly over time, these simple joy becomes the ordinary things that are part of the mundane life. From time to time, we might experience a simple joy as adults and when we share the experience, it can be quickly shutdown by other adults who deem this experience “ordinary.”
Live and have fun
As our physical body grows, our inner child is suppressed. The inner child is who we really are. We are blocked from the world that we’re supposed to live in and experience by a shadow. We need the light of love, compassion and forgiveness to dissolve the shadow that is imprisoning us. We need to find the light within ourselves; we need to shine our light on other people’s shadows; and when others shine their light on our shadows, we need to be able to move beyond our fear and accept the light. How wonderful will it be to really live again? Living every moment like it is our first time seeing a snow flake or the sunrise. When we live every moment so consciously, having defined purposes become irrelevant. For we are one with the universe experiencing everything life has to offer in every second. We live without limit and our life is full of possibilities. When we decide what we are supposed to do in life, we become restricted. We will achieve excellency in one field but we miss out the opportunity to experience all the possibilities life has to offer. Release your inner child and start living. All there is in life is now.
