Books that heal: Journey of Souls
We’re learners, not sinners.
They say light is the expression of the Creator’s love. This powerful love emanates through human hearts in the world. It is not of attachment or bias but of pure unconditional love. I felt the Creator’s love vividly once in my dream. I still feel it vividly whenever I close my eyes and quiet the chatter in my mind. It brings tears every time when I’m showered with this unconditional love.
In my dream, I was swallowed by the darkness of my childhood home - alone, scared and despaired. A door opened and I looked up. A warm loving light penetrated the darkness and lit up the room. A figure walked through the door towards me and I asked “Where did you go?” My brother answered lightheartedly with a tender smile, “I went to South America! But now, I’ve come to take you home.” He reached out to take my hand and we started floating upwards to the light behind the door. I felt forgiven, whole and complete. I knew I was going home.
This dream led me to Dr. Michael Newton’s book, Journey of Souls. He and all the souls who shared their stories in the book brought the first ray of sunshine to a very dark corner in my heart. Knowing how forgiving the soul world is releases me from the guilt’s grip that has imprisoned my soul for over a decade. I’m forever grateful for this amazing gift.
The detailed and genuine descriptions of the spirit world erased the fear I had about death. The spirit world is forgiving, loving and healing. Knowing this version of the spirit world helps me realize that we are all learners and not sinners. We will reflect and receive feedback, but we will not be punished or condemned for what we didn’t understand or didn’t achieve on Earth. Here is some comforting information about the “place” we go after our life on Earth.
In my dream, I was alone in a dark room. Then the door opened and the light lit the room.
In my dream, my brother was dressed in a yellow suit.
He held out his hand and said to me, “I’ve come to take you home.” Then we started floating towards the light.
Homecoming - our real home
When we return to our real home in the spirit world, we are immediately greeted by friendly spirits who are close to us. They could be our soulmates, friends, relatives, etc. Our guides may not reveal themselves but they will be close by to monitor our arrival. These friendly spirits welcome us and offer whatever we need at the moment to support the homecoming transition. Even if these souls are incarnating, they are still able to greet us in the spirit world. While Dr. Michael Newton didn’t use the term “higher-self” in the book, the ability to be at two “places” at the same time sounds similar to the higher-self concept. When we are incarnating in the physical world, part of our consciousness exists in the spirit world. If we are sensitive spiritually, we can receive guidance from our higher-self. Worry not, we won’t be alone when we finally go home.
2. Healing - the unconditional love
After the homecoming welcome, our souls will begin the healing process. Life on Earth is extremely difficult. The distortions experienced in the human mind and body leaves marks on our souls. One of the souls in the book described the place of healing as “the vessel of healing.”
“I’m propelled in and I see a bright warm beam. It reaches out to me as a stream of liquid energy. There is a ...vapor-like ... steam swirling around me at first … then gently touching my soul as if it were alive. Then it is absorbed into me as fire and I am bathed and cleansed from my hurts.” - Journey of Souls, p.54
“...who I am as a being - was affected by the brain and body I occupied.” - Journey of Souls, p.54
We experience love on Earth. We experience something very close to unconditional love with our pets, parents, children or partners. Sometimes we catch a glimpse of the Creator’s unconditional love when we are one with the present moment. These experiences serve as signposts to what unconditional love feels like. However, I must admit my limited human mind cannot comprehend how powerful it must be. I look forward to the vessel of healing when it’s my time.
3. The Book of Lives - there are no mistakes
After our souls are healed, our guides come to help us review the life we just had on Earth. Our guides are described to be probing during these sessions but very gentle. Souls have their own personality. Whatever the personality of our guides and teachers have and they can be probing and determined, they are never critical or judgmental. They teach without imposing upon our souls’ free will. Unlike the belief system of reward and punishment we experience on Earth, our souls will not be punished for not learning a specific lesson during the incarnation. Our souls go to “study halls” and look at “books” that show us the critical moments of our life on Earth. Imagine the moving pictures in newspapers, letters and books in Harry Potter. We reflect on the choices we made and our guides, teachers and soul friends help us understand and explore alternatives. In the spirit world, we do not experience the dichotomy of right/wrong or good/evil. Hence, no judgement is passed on even if we do things that are considered horrible on Earth.
This revelation is so powerful for me personally because it gives me the courage to explore possibilities that are not confined by what’s accepted by the society in challenging situations. Instead, I choose to keep an open heart and use intuition as the compass to guide me towards the truth. Among the sea of endless possibilities, I trust the wisdom of my higher self will manifest naturally. Our intellect is a powerful tool but it is also restricted by biases and circumstances. Growing up, my culture emphasizes the usage of the intellect and neglects the importance of intuition. Whenever I made a decision based on my intuition, I would be asked to “think” again using logic and evidence. In my experience, this scientific approach to life leads to conflicting feelings, anxiety, boredom and eventually we become the living death. And the first thing that dies within us is our creativity.
4. Incarnation and Karma - our choice and not punishment
It might take some effort to be open-minded about the concept of incarnation for some people, it is not a foreign concept for me to ponder because of the culture I was born into. The things I was taught about incarnation are negative. I was taught that human beings are innately sinful so we go through incarnations as our punishments. And somewhere in heaven and hell, there is someone keeping the score of each of us. If we didn’t say thank you to someone who helped us, we would get points deducted and we should expect punishment to come in any form. They call this karma.
“Nothing happens to anybody which he is not fitted by nature to bear. “
I used to think this means there is a higher power that knows me better than I know myself. Therefore, this higher power designed all the lessons for me to learn in this lifetime. My only option is to accept these lessons and suffering is part of the lesson. Oh boy, I was so oblivious!
After a period of reflection, contemplation and telepathic discussion with our guides and soul friends, we are ready to learn again. This decision is made by each soul voluntarily and not by coercion or persuasion. We decide on the lessons we want to learn this time, we choose the obstacles to help us learn these lessons and we even choose our country, culture, and yes even our family.
“The soul must now assimilate all this information and take purposeful action based upon three primary decisions: am I ready for a new physical life? What specific lessons do I want to undertake to advance my learning and development? Where should I go, and who shall I be in my next life for the best opportunity to work on my goals?” - Journey of Souls, p.202
We are the higher power that designs our lives and challenges. That’s why we can trust whatever happens to us happens for a reason. As Eckhart Tolle would say - treat it like you chose it. This realization doesn’t take away emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, etc. We just need to recognize the lessons each experience is meant to teach us. Then, we can transcend the emotions and create something meaningful to help our souls advance.
